Pine Hill Elementary must shift to distance learning beginning this Wednesday, Nov. 18
Posted on 11/16/2020

Dear Pine Hill Elementary School Family,

Due to an unexpected and ongoing staff shortage, Pine Hill Elementary must shift to distance learning beginning this Wednesday, Nov. 18. I understand the stress this may place on your family and I want to apologize for the short notice. The challenges related to the community spread of COVID-19 has made our hybrid learning model unsustainable.

What This Means For Your Child

  • Pine Hill students in grades K-5 will start distance learning on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
    • Student group A students will bring home their mobile devices and other materials today, Nov. 16.
    • Student group B students will bring home their mobile devices and other materials tomorrow, Nov. 17.
  • We may also schedule an additional day for families to pick up other learning materials in the coming days
  • As previously announced:
    • Pine Hill students (K-5) in the current hybrid model will not have school on Nov. 20, Nov. 23-24 and Dec. 4. There will not be work or virtual lessons on these days.
    • Pine Hill students (K-5) in the Virtual Learning Academy will not have school on Nov. 20 and Dec. 4.

Distance Learning on Wednesday and Thursday

  • Your child’s teacher or a substitute will lead the classroom virtually on Wednesday, Nov. 18 and Thursday, Nov. 19.
  • Please have your child login to SeeSaw to complete assignments from home.
  • Schedule for Wednesday and Thursday
    • 9 a.m. - Students will go to their homeroom teacher’s WebEx room for real-time instruction
    • 10 a.m. - Students will go to their assigned teacher’s WebEx room for real-time instruction
    • 12:30-1:15 p.m. - Teachers will hold office hours on WebEx for students to check in with their homeroom teacher for additional help
    • Special education and English language services will be provided. Your case manager will communicate the time for instruction.

Distance Learning Beginning Nov. 30

  • All elementary schools were originally scheduled to shift to distance learning on Dec. 7. Pine Hill students will be shifting early on Nov. 30 and will remain in distance learning until all elementary schools are able to return to the hybrid learning model.
  • Students and families will receive a more detailed schedule for distance learning by Nov. 30 as originally planned.

School Meals

  • Families may pick up school meals for Wednesday, Nov. 18 and Thursday, Nov. 19 through one of two curbside meal pick up locations tomorrow, Nov. 17.

Lake Middle School

3133 Pioneer Dr., Woodbury

Cottage Grove Middle School

9775 Indian Blvd. S., Cottage Grove

8 - 10 a.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 17

8 - 10 a.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 17

Beginning Friday, Nov. 20, Pine Hill families can follow the distance learning meal schedule to pick up curbside meals at one of the district’s curbside locations. Families can select one of two meal schedule options, twice-a-week pick-up or once-a-week pick-up. Families cannot participate in both schedules and there is no sign-up required.

Child Care

  • Current families registered for Essential Care will continue to receive scheduled care Nov. 18-20, 23-24 and Nov. 30-Dec. 4. Essential care is intended for extreme circumstances in which no parent or guardian is at home because all the parents or legal guardians in the child’s household are Tier I critical workers.
    • Beginning Dec. 7, Essential Care will be consolidated to four sites across the district. More information will be available soon.
  • Kids Club will continue to offer fee-based child care for families who do not qualify for essential care. Space is limited and registration is available at ce.sowashco.org.

Note to Pre-K families: Please follow the guidance you received from your Pre-K program regarding distance learning.

Again, I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this unexpected situation together. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at 651-425-3903. Thank you for supporting your child and Pine Hill Elementary School.

Sincerely,

Jolaine Mast, Principal
